Put Together a Guest List
Before you move on to anything else, you need to know how many people will be attending. This is important because once you know, you’ll be able to find a venue big enough and a catering company that can facilitate you, among other things. Many couples have said that putting a guest list together caused arguments before their wedding day so be prepared for anything. Once this is out of the way, the jobs get easier.
Have You Got a Theme?
For a wedding, the theme may just be the wedding colours but there are tons of ideas for any kind of party. Once you know your theme you can start doing some research on what you can include in the party. Getting a themed cake always goes down well but you can do other things, like decoration, personalized banners and even printed napkins.
Plan the Menu
If you’ve got a significant number of people attending your event, you need to plan the menu a few months in advance. Decide what you want to serve. Do you want to provide hot food or cold food? Will drinks be available or should the venue open their bar? When it comes to weddings, you may have the option of attending a taster session to choose your menu. It’s important to take this opportunity to see what your venue specialises in.
Send Out the Invites
It won’t be a party if no-one shows up. You’d be surprised by how many people actually forget to invite their guests and then have to rush at the last minute. Make sure you leave enough time for your guests to RSVP, so you can do a final head count before the big day arrives. It also protects you anyone you’re planning the event for from disappointment.
Music
A party isn’t a party without a dance floor. Make a list of some of your favourite songs. If you’re having a DJ, he’ll be able to find any soon you choose with a quick search but if you’re using your own sound system, you’ll need to put a CD or digital copy together. It’s a bit more complicated with a wedding because you’ll have to choose a song to walk down the aisle to and a first dance song. Most couples don’t have trouble with that.
Give People Jobs
On the day of the part, you may be too busy to address any problems that may arise. Designate someone who can answer any questions and take over when necessary. It’s time for you to enjoy yourself!
