You’ve gotten engaged, and now your wedding is just around the corner. There are a ton of things that have to get done and you are probably starting to feel a little stressed and overwhelmed. With a few tips you can relax and still ensure that your wedding day will be the best it can be.
Consider the Season
When trying to decide on your wedding date, consider the season. Summer months tend to be more expensive than the rest of the year at most venues. You also want your guests to be comfortable. Consider the extra measures you should take before planning an outdoor wedding in August in 100 degree weather or outdoors in January when it’s snowing. If your guests get too hot or too cold, you run the risk of them taking their leave of the reception a little early.
Set a Budget
From the photographer to the food, to the venue itself, weddings can get expensive. So as not to bury yourself in financial woes before you even get married, set yourself a budget. Ideally, 50% of your budget should go towards your reception, 10% to flowers, 10% to your attire, 10% to photography, and 10% to invites, gifts, and other miscellaneous expenses. Set aside the last 10% of your budget for the inevitable unforeseen expenses. If you need to reduce your expenses, the easiest way is to cut your guest list.
Shop with a Friend
Every time you go shopping when it is wedding related, you should bring a friend along. Take your maid of honor, your groom, or your mom. They can provide feedback and support when choosing your dress, your cake, and your flowers. In addition to being able to get a second opinion, you will be able to spend quality time with your loved ones and make memories that will last forever.
Hire Professionals
Professionals make everything easier as far as weddings go. Take a wedding planner – while it is definitely possible to plan your wedding on your own, hiring a wedding planner can make the whole process a lot smoother. Wedding planners will already have recommended venues and vendors. They are familiar with and masters of the wedding planning process, so you know that nothing will be forgotten.
Another great example is the sound set-up. Surprisingly, many wedding venues don’t come with the greatest built-in sound systems. You might be inclined to simply plug in an iPod to whatever speakers are there, but hiring a professional like Selective Sound Entertainment or someone similar can make a huge difference.
Relax and Enjoy!
It’s your wedding, so the most important thing is that you and your groom are happy with the result. If a tradition strikes your fancy, then go ahead and incorporate it into your big day, despite what anyone else might say. Treat yourself to some relaxing activities, like a spa day, in the weeks before you say “I do”. Take a breath and enjoy these days when you are just beginning your lives together.
The trick to making your wedding the best it can be is to personalize it. Stay organized and make it unique to you, and you will have the best day of your life.
